Are you in the mood for a Cyber crop?

If you are, then rock on over to Heaven - Sent........

Cyber Crop - Friends

The next Cyber Crop is on right now! There are four challenges, which are created by two of our Design Team members, Karen and Mary. The challenges have been posted on our forum today, Thursday February 26, 2009. All the layouts have to be uploaded in our Cyber Crop Gallery by midnight on Monday, March 2, 2009.

On Saturday night we will do a game and chat on our forum too! Cyber Crops are a great way of getting some scrapping done, using products from your stash and to have fun with other members of our Heaven-Sent community. There are prizes to be won and the winners will randomly be drawn on Tuesday March 3, 2009. Here are the four challenges:

Challenge #1
This is a quote challenge; please use one of the quotes below in your layout. Colour choice, style and embellishments are all your choice.

"I get by with a little help from my friends." - John Lennon
"Truth and tears clear the way to a deep and lasting friendship."
"Friends are God's way of taking care of us."
"The making of friends, who are real friends, is the best token we have of a man's success in life." - Edward Everett Hale
"Friendship is a special kind of love."
"Gems may be precious, but friends are priceless."
"My best friend is the one who brings out the best in me."- Henry Ford

Challenge #2

Please use the words from a song by Michael W. Smith as an inspiration for a layout. Please include some journaling. Feel free to use the whole song, a part of the song or only one line on the layout.

See the words here: February Cybercrop challenges

Challenge #3

Create a layout for the Victorian fire victims as mentioned on the forum to be a friend to someone we don’t know. Refer to: ( http://sares1911.wordpress.com/ )

Challenge #4

Please use this sketch from page maps as your inspiration. If you are unable to print photos at home why not use a 6 x 4 print and use embellishments or journaling blocks where the 2.25” x 2.25” photos are.

I'm bound to drop by and join you at some stage so come and have some fun with us.
I do have my regular Friday night crop tomorrow so if you are looking for a place to chat and scrap, come and join us.
I am also running a card class on Saturday afternoon so will be short on time this weekend. I'd like to get a challenge or two done though.
Don't forget we also have a couple of challenges for the month at Heaven-Sent. Go here to check them out: Competitions Feb, 2009
Enjoy a scrapping weekend!

Time for some shares.

Wow, I didn't realise how far behind I was with sharing my work. I have been busy in a variety of ways and just this weekend spent time setting up and working at the Stamping and Scrapbooking Fair here in Adelaide. Ingeborg, Karen, Kendrie and I had a great time on the Heaven Sent stall and enjoyed chatting with lots of people and of course selling lots of products.

My first share is my card that I submitted to win my role on the DT at My Sketch World. I hope you like it as much as Lucy seemed to.

Last week on Tuesday we had a power blackout. It started about 2.50pm and came back on about 8.50pm just as I was reading the boys bedtime story by candlelight.

You should have heard the complaints of boredom because there was no TV, computer or Wii. They couldn't even do music practice because the keyboard wouldn't work. It was just so drastic.....

I was trying to explain how minimal this inconvenience was in comparison to those who have lost their homes in Victoria but for 9 yr olds that was a difficult concept to get through.

On the positive though, they learnt how to light a gas cooktop with matches....how you can cook in/on something other than a microwave... how to melt the candle wax to get the candle to stand up on a plate..... and how even a candle can set off the fire alarm.

I realised that it is the longest ever blackout that they have experienced as usually they only go for an hour or so.

Here we are playing Nintendo DS's by candlelight:

The weekend before this one I had the fun of joining in on the Cybercrop for a Cause at Scrap of Difference.

This is Challenge #1 : What in your life makes you feel lucky?

Challenge #2 - Sketch

Challenge #3 - Colour challenge using blue, black and red.

Challenge #4 - A card with something red and a heart.

Back to a couple of The Write Stuff layouts: Lesson 4

Lesson 6

And finally, catching up on a few more Octoberfest layouts:

Octoberfest #26

Octoberfest #25

Octoberfest #24 - bonus layout

Octoberfest #24

Octoberfest #23
So there you have it ..... I really have been doing some work here and there.
I have also completed the two cards for pagemaps and all my DT work for Heaven-Sent so look out in both those sites on the 1st of March..... they will be up and running then.
Better run off and pick up kids from school now!

I'm excited!

Today I have heard that I have been accepted for the My Sketch World - Card Design Team for the next six months. So I will look forward to working with Lucy Chesna's designs and sharing them with you.

I am also doing card samples for Becky Fleck @ pagemaps this month ready for the Card maps due on the 1 st of March. So, keep an eye out when you get your Page maps email too.

I'm also still finishing off my DT work for Heaven-Sent and getting nowhere fast on that.

Last but not least I am packaging up three layouts to go to Scrapbook Magazine in the UK as they are going to publish some work in their readers gallery. I'm not sure which edition yet but will let you know as soon as I do.

I will share some layouts and cards with you soon but need to get onto photographing and labelling stuff first.

Have a fun day!

A few things happening.....

With the nasty bushfires happening in Victoria this week there are a few things happening that you may be interested in getting involved with to help support those involved in anyway.

On Sarah Gladman's blog http://sares1911.wordpress.com/ she has shared this:

I feel for those families in the Victorian regions devasted by fire this week. I can’t help but feel frustrated at the limited amount we are able to do from here to help. I can donate money but I felt the need for something more tangible to be done for those families who have literally lost everything.

As scrappers, one of the most important things we deal with on a daily basis are memories. Family memories, memories of loved ones, memories of holidays, birthdays, christenings, bbq’s and days at the beach. These families in Victoria have got no tangible evidence of their lives left. No family photos. No happy snaps. You can replace a fridge, but you can’t replace years of momentos.

In order to help out these family begin to put their lives back together I have started a scrapbooking plan - called “MEMORY GIFTS”.

Quite simply, I ask each and every one of you who read this blog to donate a 12 x 12inch almost completed scrapbook LO to the “Memory Gifts” program. Each page will be sent to me. I will collect them and bind them, then hand them over to the head of Pastoral Care for the Victorian Catholic Education Office, Maria Kirkwood in Melbourne. It will not be just Catholic families benefiting, it will be anyone who needs it. The albums will then be distributed to the principals of the 4 schools that burned down, who will know exactly who to give them to.

Each family devastated by fire will be (in time) given album pages to help them begin their memories again. Those families can then approach their own families for copies of photos to put into the albums, or simply start putting in fresh memories.

If you think you can help, please leave me a comment and I will reply with my postal address so that you can send on your page. Any help you can give will be much appreciated.

I plan to have these albums finished by the 20th of March - that gives us a month to get cracking and create as many pages as we can!

If you feel you wish to contribute in some other way, please leave me a comment and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Many thanks on the behalf of the Victorian families who have lost everything.
Sares x

I have offered to help by making my home a drop off point for South Australians in Adelaide so you can phone me on: 8289 2914 and make a time to drop off any layouts by the 15th of March so I can forward them on to Sarah.

If you wish to do some scrapbooking this weekend and are looking for some inspiration then head over to Scrap of Difference for a Cybercrop for a cause: ( http://www.scrapofdifference.com.au/forum/viewforum.php?f=64 )

We have just experienced the worst Natural Disaster in terms of the loss of human life this country has ever had with the Victorian bushfires. Whilst the horror of these fires unfolds daily in our news reports we cannot forget the other Australians in North Queensland who have lost everything to flood waters rising and taking with them their valued possessions.

There are many appeals collecting money for these two causes and under a tight economic climate it is impossible for any of us to give as MUCH as we would really like to. So, how about let us band together and do what we do best and support each other and show our support for those less fortunate by scrapping.

We will be holding a cybercrop this weekend starting Friday evening and ending Monday morning.
All layouts are to be in the gallery by Monday evening midnight.

Instead of our usual $10 gift voucher being awarded to the winner - the prize money will be donated to the victims of fire and flood. Whilst it might not seem like much and it never seems like enough, at least we can band together and show some support. So if you have cybercropped with us before or are new and would like to join in - please pop in here and say Hi and get ready for a weekend of chatter and creativity.

I am hoping to get some done myself as well as some layouts to send to Sarah.

Happy Valentines Day all!

Photo tagged!...... Who will I choose?

I have been 'photo tagged' by Ingeborg.

The assignment is:
Go to the 6th album of your photos and find the 6th photo.
Share that photo and tell a little bit about it.
Tag six people and ask them to do the same.

The photo above is the 6th I found in my 6th file. The picture is taken on the 20th of January, 2009. We were staying at Sunraysia resort in Mildura and Mitchell was swimming in the outdoor pool and wanting to know what the metal round piece was in the bottom of the pool.

Now ... let me see who I can tag for this?
Here we go:

Nes
Jewels
Trisha
Ossie
Sar
Debbie

Can't wait to see your pictures too!
Melissa.

Cybercropping.... come join me!

You know with all this hot weather I have a house full of unwanted insects and it is driving me insane!
I know it is a little revolting but I just had to share this image of the fly that I sprayed the other night. I had to put it next to a normal fly to show you the difference..... no joke, this fly was 4 times the size of a regular fly and about an inch long. It was giving me the shudders just to have it flying around me.

Well after that awful thought, onto some sharing. Last weekend I managed to sneak in a couple of the challenges at Scrap of Difference Cybercrop. They had some great challenges but with all the stuff going on in my weekend last week I just didn't find enough time to play with them all.

This is a card I made for Rochelle's challenge - to make a card using white, pink and green. I needed the sympathy card to send to my wonderful friend Cathy from the ACT whose Father passed away just before we went to Mildura. My thoughts and prayers are with Cathy and her family.

There was also a sketch challenge using a pagemaps sketch so I chose that one to do as half of the plan was there for me.

Santa bought all my boys a Nintendo DS for Christmas and consequently the interest level in talking to me at times has dropped. This was done with a TLC Runway playhouse circle kit, some foam letters that I found at Go-Lo and some Carolee creations Adornit alphas. The blast shape was cut with the Cricut from the Plantin Schoolbook Cart.

Back to a layout inspired by Jen Hall's - The Write stuff online class. Man have I got heaps to catch up on there. Have printed some photos but still planning lots of these to do.

Layout #9

Heading onto my work for yesterday - considering it is now 1 am..... The Cybercrop at Heaven Sent.
Melanie and Brigitte really have us thinking.

No: 1 - Signs of Life - A layout that shows pictures from our home and the signs that we live there.

No: 2 Scrap a layout about your handbag and journal what you like about it and it's contents etc.

No: 3 Scrap an everyday routine

Haven't got to number four yet so we will see if I manage to get around to it as I have lots of housework and family time to catch up on. I also need to type up my newsletter for the next two months and get out to everyone. Anyone know where I might find an extra 24/48 hours?

One thing that has got me excited tonight..... I found my Pink Paislee stamps that I bought from Scraploot with my Puzzlesketches win. I lost them a month ago when I was planning to use them in the last cybercrop at Heaven-Sent. I have had all my stamps out over and over again looking for them and searched my crop room only to find them tonight inside the bag of another set of stamps. How did that happen?

Last but not least I wanted to share my layout that I did with Penny Hackney's - How does your garden grow online class.
Do you know how much cutting there was in this one?
It took me ages but I'm really pleased with it. I actually stuck with similar colours to Penny's original as they matched the dress Bruna's niece is wearing. I would never have thought to do this much work to make a garland of flowers.... I'm too lazy!
Good on Penny for coming up with such a great design. Have I ever mentioned how I like Penny's work?
I, on the other hand, can't doodle for quids!

Have a good weekend what's left of it and try to stay cool.
