Halloween Disco night

It's crop night tonight and the boys have their Halloween disco at school. It's a little rush to get organised after school but I'm sure we will get there. Note to self; - remember to take photos to use for Halloween page kit!

I'm not really into the whole Halloween scenario for both religious reasons and personal choice but the kids really, really want to do it so I have succumbed only because the school are holding a disco with a Halloween theme. Only two of the boys will go to the disco and Keelan will help me set up for crop night at home.
So, tonight I have about 4 people coming for a crop session and finally tomorrow night I will be going to Heaven-Sent monthly "Crop for a Cure" at Ingeborg's home. Always love doing that and hopefully will catch up some more on some of the Octoberfest layouts.
I'm sharing a few more today:

Layout 18 - School holiday fun
Layout 19 - I wonder
Layout 19a - Ethan, 1st camp

Lastly my share for the week is my DT work for November that has now been put up ready for tomorrow as I am too busy to upload tomorrow. Here are the two layouts and a couple of cards which I taught at the "Crop for a cure" recently. But, to see the rest you need to go to my DT gallery at Heaven-Sent:

http://heaven-sent.com.au/index.php?option=com_gallery2&Itemid=56&g2_itemId=1641

Hope you like looking at them and would love you to leave me some feedback either here or in my DT area on the forum @ Heaven-Sent.

All layouts and cards are using the Delish Designs: Mulberry Season papers

Happy scrapping and have a lovely weekend!

Scrappin', scrappin'

It's been a quieter couple of days after the busy weekend with the Stamping and Scrapbooking Fair and the Church stall. It was lovely to see some new faces at the Fair as well as some regulars.

The cybercrop was good fun at Heaven-Sent too. I even managed to win the game of jumbled flowers on Saturday night. That was amusing as I'm not a gardener at all. It's a good thing that Mum knew her flowers and passed at least a little on to me.

Have been trying to get a start with the Octoberfest layouts and have managed to complete layouts 22, 21 and 20. I'm working backwards from where I joined in. I've already shown you my first one so here are the other two:

Finally today I even managed to finish my paper piecing layout for Ingeborg's challenge for the month. The trees and roo are courtesy of my Cricut and the birds are from the Scrapbooks etc. paper piecing patterns. These photos are from 2005 when Jackie, a Chinese teacher stayed with us for a number of weeks and we took her up to Gorge wildlife park.

Thanks for visiting.....

Cybercrop this weekend.

Well I'm a little naughty because I forgot to mention earlier in the week that there is a Cybercrop happening at Heaven-Sent this weekend. The plan of attack for the Cyber crop has changed a little from the past so 'read on' to hear more:

Our next Cyber Crop - Spring is in the air' is on during the last weekend of this month. There will be four challenges, which will be posted on our forum on Thursday October 23, 2008. All the layouts have to be uploaded in our Cyber Crop gallery by midnight on Monday October 27, 2008. On Saturday night we will do a game and chat on our forum too! Cyber Crops are a great way of getting some scrapping done, using products from your stash and to have fun with other members of our Heaven-Sent community. There are prizes to be won and the winners will randomly be drawn on Tuesday October 28, 2008.

I have a busy weekend personally, so knew I had to get them done today and tonight so here are my examples:

CCC#1 - Spring cleaning

CCC #2 - Spring is in the air......

CCC# 3 - Cherish life
CCC #4 - Springtime colours.
I actually made a start on my Octoberfest layouts but only have one completed so far, day 22. This is my first 8.5 x 11" layout so I did another today in the cyber crop as I actually like it. Thanks Jen for showing me the light!

I have two others laid out almost ready to be stuck down but just waiting on one or two items to complete. They may have to wait until Monday now as Heaven-Sent has a busy weekend.
Sunday here in Elizabeth in Adelaide there is the Stamping and Scrapbooking Fair at Playford Civic Centre from 9am - 4pm. If you are in the vicinity, drop by the Heaven-Sent stall and say G'day. Entry is $5 and there is ample parking as the Elizabeth shopping centre is directly across the road. Last of all is a picture of a friendly little visitor that joined us after dinner this evening. A lovely blue- tongue ... and this is as close as I got!
Have a lovely weekend.

Preparing for Octoberfest

Well, I signed up for Octoberfest through Jen Hall's blog. It's an online class a day for the month of October but if you can't do them all then the classroom is open until January to do them in your own time.
I spent all last night printing the instructions as I only got the access to the classroom yesterday, and today and tonight I have spent my time choosing and printing photos. It' s unlikely that I'll use any papers that Jen uses - apart from a couple of transparencies that I bought online today, but I will certainly get a chance to use up my stash and hopefully get some great looking layouts done along the way. There is a great variety - feminine, masculine, 8.5 x 11" and some different techniques that will be new for me. Just looking through the layouts and choosing photos has me excited.
So much for my roll on the Christmas cards!
On the home front, both Keelan and Ethan entered the International Schools competition in Computing and both received credits for their marks. A great achievement for them both. If I allowed them to have, and use, email at their age they probably would have done better as they were a couple of the questions that they stumbled on. I'm not quite ready for them to be using that yet though.
Well, I better go hang out the washing and try and get to bed before midnight for a change. Need my beauty sleep for the busy weekend with the Stamping and Scrapbooking Fair at Elizabeth and a conference where Heaven-Sent is setting up at on Saturday.
There is also a Cybercrop at Heaven-Sent this weekend - Spring is in the Air.
Challenges will go up on Thursday night this time and you have until Monday midnight SA time to upload your entries. Join me there for at least a little while.

It's a Christmas card week...

Well I've put the scrapbooking on the back burner for the last week and focussed on starting my Christmas cards. I made about 30 over 3 days - 12 of which were the same for a swap at Scrapwitch. I've had a lot of fun with them so far and used up a lot of stickers I had lying around and some recycled cards which I always start with.

I was having a lost mojo moment so decided that I would start them by directly cardlifting ideas from magazines however it didn't take long for me to realise that I am so not used to doing that and just gave in to my own ideas. Here are a few of my favourites:

Had my regular crop night last night and it was an early finish as everyone was tired. Still didn't mean I got to bed early though cos as usual I sat down to do things after everyone left.

Today has been shopping for Bakugan battle brawlers for those who know what they are..... I had to google them! After that I was building a Lego police station and police cars. I did about 4 loads of dishes because my dishwasher wasn't working last night and we had to turn it off, then after that I decided to fix it. I could have thought of the possible problem before the loads of dishes but c'est la vie!

Bruce has bought a new vaccuum cleaner today as my current one almost died this week because the motor is on its way out. The boys unpacked the boxes - because he got a steam cleaner as part of the deal and they have proceeded to build little houses from them since. There is of course more mess on the floor now than before.

The front door handle has fallen off this afternoon so every time someone comes to the door we have to let them in. Guess that means a visit to Bunning's tomorrow.

It's nearly time for their bed so maybe I might scrap tonight before I get the Christmas cards out again.

If you would like to leave a donation to their GIRLS NIGHT IN on October 30th you may do so anytime prior to the "event" or on the night. They welcome all donations - there is a link on the lefthand sidebar of the blog.... http://www.fiskarscraft.typepad.com/
Please help them to reach their goal .....more details to be announced soon....so check back in....where they'll have further details of their Auction, Challenges, fun and games.....not to be missed.....you may even like to get together with some friends on the night and join them on-line.....they'd love to see you there on the 30th from 6pm EST Aussie time.....8pm NZ time.

My day has been quiet after two weeks of school holidays. It was a slow going morning getting back to the school routine, but we finally made it there on time. I finally got around to sorting and putting the clothes away, then washing floors - not that you would know that now of course.

Back to the old routine of homework and music practice then off to tennis lesson. Mitchell has chosen not to do tennis this term so consequently got very bored about 30 minutes into the lesson.... well, I did warn him!
No scrapping today - took me ages to work out how to attach a blinkie to my blog tonight so getting nowhere fast. Definitely need to start on some Christmas cards tomorrow because I just realised that I signed myself up for a Christmas card swap. Thankfully they will all be the same - that's if I actually have enough of one thing to make them the same..... LOL!

Crop for a cure and general crop night.

Wow, have the last few days been busy.
On Friday I was doing some last minute things to prepare for our "Crop for a Cure" with Heaven-Sent that I was teaching at on Saturday. I then had to tidy my own crop area for my regular Saturday night crop at home. This meant that Saturday was a long day for me.

I took the boys to Cobbler Creek for a little play on Friday afternoon as they seemed to need to be out of the house for a while. They rode their bikes whilst I walked, which was great for getting there but boy was there lots of complaints about the uphill trip on the way back.

Mitchell of course, had to get himself very wet all through his shorts accidently, by slipping over in the creek. They do love going there though so it was worth the time outside. The weather was gorgeous too.

On Saturday, Mary from our Heaven-Sent DT, had the wonderful idea of surprising Ingeborg, our fearless leader, by arriving from Victoria for our Crop for a cure day. I knew about the surprise for a week or two and it was quite difficult to not let the news slip. It was great to see Ingeborg's face when she met Mary for the first time though. Here are a couple of photos.

The crop day ran beautifully and everyone enjoyed what they did from the feedback given, even if I did have them a little stressed about what to throw out and what not to throw out. And, where to cut their pieces from. I can't show you the cards they made yet as they are part of my DT work to go up on the 1st of November so some have had the opportunity to get a good sneak peek.
I have been busy scrapbooking myself in my "spare" time over the last few days. I have managed my colour challenge and sketch challenge at Scrapwitch for the month:

I have also been busy today doing four layouts for their Cybercrop:
1. OWL challenge using embellishments starting with O, W & L
2. Mini step-by-step challenge
3. Use a rubbing - like you used to do as a kid, over leaves and coins etc. on a layout
4. Sketch from the Prima blog

Here are my efforts:

The last layout "Oh the choices" is a layout just because I wanted to scrapbook the photos and for no other challenge or reason. Wow, I don't do that too often these days........

Christmas is coming

I received a letter today offering to go into a draw to win tickets to see the Christmas Pageant from a special spectator box provided by the Credit Union. This made me realise that Christmas is coming much sooner than I really realise.
I am trying to get myself into Christmas card making mode which generally isn't a problem as I LOVE making Christmas cards however I just seem to keep putting it off at the moment and finding other things to do.

On the home front it has been a quiet week. Tuesday we were in and out all day, Wednesday we had Ingeborg and family visit and today I picked up the keys for the hall where our Crop for a Cure is to be held on Saturday. This afternoon the boys didn't want to do anything and I was planning to go to visit my sister but after calling realised that she is on her way to Mount Gambier for the weekend to visit my brother who has not been well for a number of weeks.

I actually managed to have an early tea (unrushed) and get to karate before the start. The kids had a great time tonight at karate as one of the Mum's had brought along some exercise balls for the children to roll over when doing their roll work to help them better their technique. They did really well with it and then the Sensei decided to let them have some fun for the rest of the night so that the little children did not lose interest. He had them playing a dodge ball game and they loved it. I wasn't so impressed with the concept after watching a couple of them get hit in the face with the balls but it didn't seem to put them off.

I have managed to complete a layout this week for a Use Your Stash challenge over at Scrapwitch. We had to use old papers, rub-ons, chipboard, more than three photos, double-page layout and a handmade embellishment.

This is my layout:

I also finished the sketch layout challenge for Scrapwitch tonight but will have to wait until tomorrow to photograph that one.

I've spent half my afternoon looking for a display book with Artist Choice/Paper Seeds instructions in it from Breezy Design but alas, I have yet to find it. I know I had it last week but my 40 year old brain is starting to fail me continually at the moment and I keep putting things away and not remembering where I safely put them. Ah, the frustration of it all.

Long weekend

Well, it has been a kind of busy weekend so far and I had a fruitful crop at Ingeborg's last night. To explain the discussion regarding sketches.... When I go to a crop I like to be prepared so I can get some work done - despite sabotage efforts......LOL. Here are examples of how I prepare - my notebook with sketches and notes about the layout followed by my work in progress folder containing the products I wish to use. My layouts don't always work to my sketch but often come pretty close.
You can see with my notebook that I have my sketch for the Grandpa's Eyes layout for Moira's challenge at Heaven-Sent and also the Puzzlesketches layout plan.
I got both completed and also Leanne's Challenge at Heaven-Sent inspired by the pink advert below.

I have had a little chance to visit the Cybercrop at Now Scrapping in honour of the World Card making day and these are my contributions so far. Mistra's challenge - to make 3 cards or a layout incorporating all of the following: A butterfly, a smidgen of pink, a card inspired by Chapter 7 of Alice in Wonderland - the Mad hatter tea party. (I'm still working on that one) That kept me awake half the night working out an idea for the tea party, now I just have to pull it together. I should have got up at 4 am and drawn the sketch of it instead of waiting until 10.30am, maybe I would have had a better morning's sleep. Aside from the above we have been paving, paving and paving again today. I can almost get to my clothesline out the back without stepping on dirt. That's an achievement. Have carted two trailer's of paving sand by bucket up the steps as our back garden is over a number of levels and difficult to reach with the wheelbarrow. The boys have been a little help today moving bricks so it saved us some time and energy. A little more to keep on with tomorrow no doubt.
Went to see Wall-E at the movies this afternoon and the boys thought it was okay. I enjoyed it but it was one I could have waited to see on Foxtel or DVD.
Well I'm off to see if I can execute this Tea Party card and then onto the other card choices..... Hmm.... not sure how many will actually get done.

It's October!

Well the beginning of the month brings the new challenges and over at Heaven-Sent there sure are some interesting ones.

Ingeborg, Moira and Leanne created three scrapbooking competitions for this month. All the details of the October Competitions can be found on the forum. Please upload all your entries in the October Competition Gallery.
Ingeborg’s Competition: Create a layout with some (or a lot of ) paper piecing on it. Paper piecing is using cut out shapes to create a new image/ picture. The cut out shapes can be cut by hand or using a cutting machine.
Moira's Competition: Create a layout using a triadic colour scheme. Triadic schemes involve colours that are positioned in a triangle on the colour wheel, and the two 'exact' triadic schemes are Purple, Green and Orange, or Red, Yellow and Blue. When using this scheme, try to stick to the 60/30/10 rule to achieve a solid, attractive design - 60% of one colour, 30% of the next, and just 10% of the third colour.
Leanne's Competition: Create a layout inspired by the following ‘Air Freshener’ advertisement (see below or look for a close up in the competition gallery). Even though the advertisement is pink, your layout can be any colour. You are free to interpret the picture in your own way drawing as little or as much from the ad as you desire.

I haven't done much scrapping or cardmaking today, I've been too busy playing with my new Storybook Cricut cartridge. I have also been working on cutting various sizes of all of my fonts with the Cricut and putting them onto pages in a work in progress folder so that people on my crop nights can look through it and decide for themselves what size and font they with to use. Sometimes that can take up a lot of my time helping people choose, so hopefully that will solve the problem. I was hoping to engage Keelan in helping me for most of the afternoon but after about 20 minutes he had had enough. I had glue and paper everywhere. Never mind it was fun, but I still have a couple of fonts to do.

Have been planning tonight for my crop night at Ingeborg's on Saturday night. Dont' want to let the team down by going along without my sketches and papers organised. I would never hear the end of it!!!!! LOL......

Quickie..

Just a short post tonight because it's already past midnight and my bed is surely calling.

Have had friends visiting today so it has been fun to catch up with them but the boys were not on their best behaviour. They were in that 'muck around cos friends are here' mode. Never mind I guess I have to remember it is wind down time for school holidays.

I actually found time to complete a quick layout today. I purchased the September Class in a box from one of my favourite scrappers - Penny Hackney (see my link to her Scissors, Paper, Pen blog). I received it yesterday and knew instantly what photos would work. I love Penny's work because it is so different to my own and I like to try her classes to extend my own style. I so don't doodle well on my layouts but I am learning quickly. I always add my own little extra to the layouts - either using different sized photos or like in this one, adding flowers because I'm a layered flower kinda person. I really enjoyed it yet again, thanks Penny!

Have to drop by my regular haunts tomorrow and check what is on the agenda for the challenges for the month. There should also be some new DT work up at Heaven-Sent, not mine though but I'm looking forward to seeing what the others have been up to.

The new puzzle sketches pieces should be up tomorrow at well. I used the puzzle pieces from September to create my "It's a bird's life" layout for the cybercrop on the weekend so you can drop by puzzlesketches and vote for it if you like. Every little bit helps!
